Wonderful Books

I am really enjoying my job this year - 11 kiddos in 8 school ranging in age from 4-20. Talk about variety!!! I LOVE IT!

One of the "perks" of my job is the amount of time I spend driving... and for me, that has meant, the amount of books on tape I've listened to.

Unless I can view my library check-out record, I don't think I can name even half of the books-on-tape I've listened to this fall. I probably average 1 book/week.

I started by pillaging the Children's section because I wasn't so sure about some of the adult books out there...

Below is just a fraction of the books I have listened to this fall, but I would thoroughly recommend all of them:

Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat who Touched the World by Vicki Myron
This was a heart-warming true story about a cat who was dropped in a library book-return. A great story for any animal-lover and especially cat-lovers.Her Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers
An interesting book about how a woman's childhood and adolescent journey shapes the way she raises her daughter. The first book about these characters.Live Strong: Inspirational Stories From Cancer Survivors... From Diagnosis to Treatment and Beyond
An INSPIRATIONAL compilation of stories. I could hardly get enough from one story to the next - positive and moving. These stories focus on living and surviving - a great read for anyone regardless of their experiences with or around cancer. The Impossible Journey by Gloria Whelan
This is a children's story that reminded me of Number of the Stars by Lois Lowry. This story is a child's perspective of the communist Soviet Union. This chronicles the journey and understanding of the children after their parents were arrested and sent to Siberia. It is a very child-appropriate lesson on a very serious part of history. An Album of Memories: Personal Histories from the Greatest Generation compiled by Tom Brokaw
This is my second book of stories in response to The Greatest Generation. I love reading about the stories of the great men who answered the call to protect our country. I worry that many people my age and younger do not adequately respect and understand the strength of character possessed by America's Greatest Generation. The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman
I had never read this book by Gary Chapman and what a fun book to listen to on tape. It was not only a fun read (or a fun listen, in this case) but I felt like I learned a lot as well as Chris and I continue to learn how to relate to one another.Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
I'm not a huge Jane Austen fan... but I know she's supposed to be great, but she's never really been my favorite. Well, coming out of listening to this book I basically have the same opinion... it took me about 30 chapters to get into the story, but then, it was an entertaining story. But it was 30 chapters of falling asleep at the wheel before I was actually into it...Happy Saturday and HAPPY DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!

Thankful Note: I am so thankful that my headache has eased and I'm hopeful that it will not come back. I am thankful for a weekend with Chris, for college football, for the beautiful roses that Chris brought me, for a few days to rest before heading back to work -- and for an extra hour on the clocks tonight!!!

  2. Hmm, I should eventually get around to "The Greatest Generation" - completely agree with your sentiments there. Geez, this makes me realize I probably read 2 books a year!
