When Mom is Sick

I have been sick the past two days... Tylonol helps me rally enough to function, but man, the minute that stuff wears off I feel like I've been hit by a truck again.  I am just so glad I wasn't fighting this while we were camping.

So, I need to go to bed now, but here are some things that made me laugh today:

Two-Year-Old Logic

I do not enjoy crass or low-brow comedy, which is pretty much the only commercial comedy that exists these days.

I prefer scientific rather than colloquial words regarding bathroom needs and habits, and I'm trying to teach my children the scientific words in a world where everyone around them -- parents, children, teachers, even doctors use the colloquial, low-brow language.

All of that being said, I found the below two-year-old logic really funny.

Howard:  I burped... ...in my diaper.

Best Camping Pics

Here are some of my favorite pictures from our camping trip.

I hope to post more details about what we did and how much fun we had... but for now, I'll just say a camper is definitely the way to go with four young children.  We rented a camper and, seriously, I never knew camping could be so much fun.  Sure, I've always like camping in that its fun to go swimming and hiking and fishing, and when you camp you're close to all those activities.  But had no idea that the actual sleeping part of camping didn't have to be miserable.  I've always just thought that the camping is something you endure in order to enjoy the daytime activities.

With a camper, the entire trip was so much fun!

Let's start stock piling the piggy bank to save for our own camper because that we an awesome vacation full of outdoor, (mostly) free activities that our children loved.

While its great to be home, we can't wait to go again... something I never thought I would say just a few hours after arriving home from camping.

I Found Them

I found the stickers to take the monthly pictures of Lee Lee just in time to take her 9 month picture.  Interestingly enough, every single sticker was accounted for except the 9 month sticker.  Luckily, an upside down 6 month sticker worked just fine.

So Happy!

I took this picture before we left St. Louis trying to capture how crazy the cousin/kid table was... but what I really captured how excited Lee Lee was to eat with the big kids at the big kid table.

Interruption

We interrupt this blog to bring you a week camping.

We are renting a camper for a week and we're all really excited to head out camping together as a family.  Last year, we camped for two nights in a tent... this year, four nights in a camper.

I might try to post a few pictures in advance so the blog isn't completely unattended all week, but stay tuned for actual camping updates this weekend once we're back.

Please keep us in prayer for a fun, safe week of camping fun.

Tough Job

Its really hard to do anything, even eat, when you're as loved and doted on as our Lee Lee is.  Her siblings constantly want to sit next to her, help her, make her laugh, or just hug and tickle her.

Its a tough job being loved this much, but somebody's got to do it.

Same Place

Its pretty cool that these two pictures were taken in the same place.

Same place, but a few years between them.

Someday

Someday we will take a perfect picture of every single cousin looking adorable, and smiling while in matching outfits in a beautiful setting.

For this summer, we will settle for these pictures we got on the last day of our trip.

Fishing Fun

We had a great time fishing off Grammie and Papa's doc in Michigan.

Tracey caught fish after fish off the dock... sunfish and bass

Caroline wasn't really interesting in fishing.  She held her pole for a few minutes, then went off to play.  Then, she came back to her pole and then promptly and perfectly caught a little sunfish all on her own the same time Tracey was landing her first bass.  Then, she went back to playing in the yard for the rest of the evening.

All the while, our diligent Howard, held his pole and waited and waited and waited to catch a fish of his own.  He was so excited to land his own fish... and Tracey caught more than ten, and Caroline caught one within minutes of holding her pole... and we kept encouraging Howard but the fish kept eating his worm without taking the hook.

Finally, Daddy put a lure on his big fishing pole and Howard caught his first fish!  He was the most excited little boy I have ever seen and kept yelling, "I got a fish!  I got a fish!"
He caught a bass and was so proud of himself.  We were very proud of him too, especially with the determination and grit he exhibited to get that fish.

And Hubby was able to go fishing while we were in Michigan... not on my parent's dock, but on the boat of a close friend on Lake Michigan.  Hubby had a blast, and we were thrilled to get to take some fish fillets back home to Colorado with us.

Sticky

Tracey:  Grammie, my dress is sticky.
Grammie:  Oh, did you spill something on it or touch it with sticky hands?
Tracey:  No, its sticky inside my dress.
 Grammie:  Inside your dress?
Mama:  She means she feels sticky.  She doesn't know what humidity is.  Tracey, that sticky feeling is called humidity and we don't have it in Colorado.

Hide and Seek

We went to dinner last night and the place included a huge garden and lavender field.  The twins and I played Hide and Seek in the garden, which had paths between all the herbs and flowers.  They were really good at laying flat and hiding.  We had a lot of fun.

Farm Fun

One of my dad's good friends has an old farm where he used to raise racing horses.  Dad and I took my kids out to see the farm earlier this week and they had such a ball.  It didn't matter to my kids that this was no longer a working farm with lots of crops and animals.  My children were thrilled to see all the baby barn kittens, the old empty barn with the stalls, all the space, the lake, and ride in a golf cart!

We had a ball.
