Rifle Bucket List

Our official move to Rangely is fast approaching (as we continue to pray for our housing situation there) so the kids and I created a Rifle Bucket List to help us be aware of our favorite things in Rifle and treasure the things we will miss most.

We've been checking things off little by little.

My Favorite Things About October

If I had to choose a favorite month, I would have a hard time --
May is awesome because its spring and the end of the school year,
July is awesome because its summer and Hubby and I have the whole month off to spend with family
December is awesome because its winter and the entire month is full building up to Christmas and full of seasonal activities
... and October is awesome because its fall and I simply love October.

My favorite things about October include:

  • College football season is in full swing, but not at the end yet -- every game counts, every week can change a season, teams are firing on all cylinders and the whole month is very exciting (GO MICHIGAN!)
  • Baseball is still going on -- playoff season, which is pretty much all of baseball I really pay attention to (sort of like the only basketball I watch is March Madness) -- I'm married to Hubby now, so I do see baseball throughout the summer, but ever since college, I do pay attention to post-season October baseball even without Hubby's influence (GO CARDINALS!)
  • Colorado is GORGEOUS in October!  The colors are amazing, the temperatures drop, the snow starts to tease us with its eminent arrival, but full winter isn't here yet
  • School is in a routine -- whether its a good one or not is debatable, but by October school and work has a routine and I take comfort in that
  • October starts the Holiday season in my mind -- I start thinking about Christmas presents (so not all shopping is done in December), we're preparing for Halloween, I'm getting pictures in line for our Christmas cards... but the whole Holiday season is still ahead of us.  I feel like the anticipation of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all begins in October and I love!  That doesn't mean we're decorating our tree in mid-October or anything like that... but the Holidays are right around the corner and October is full of anticipation and planning, which is really exciting.
I don't really make seasonal bucket lists for our family... but if I did, my October bucket list for us would be:
  • To play in a pile of leaves with my kids
  • To take them to a pumpkin patch, dressed in their costumes, and pick out pumpkins and take pictures
  • To take them Trick-Or-Treating
  • To attend a middle (and maybe high school) football game
  • To go for a family hike to see the pretty leaves
  • To take as many moments as possible to look around and cherish the beauty of where I live
  • To take nice big deep breaths and cherish that the air "tastes like fall" -- if that's even possible... but it does
I Love October and welcome it with open arms.

Thank you, Lord for October.

Pre-Twins Bucket List

A few days ago I called a friend of mine who has twins this past summer to talk about the final few weeks of pregnancy.  She made it all the way to 38 weeks, plus one of her twins was smaller than the other, so they actually changed her 38 week due date mid-pregnancy to account for the smaller twin.  So, she was induced at 38 weeks, but about ten days later than her original 38 week due date.

As I mentioned in the post yesterday, I seem to be a little bipolar these days and some moments I feel like I really can hang in for the duration of this pregnancy, and I am really am sincerely glad that the babies are still growing and developing... and then a few minutes later I am full of self-doubt and overwhelmed at the idea of carrying the twins for a few more weeks.  This is a lot like running a marathon -- physically, I can do this.  Physically, if I couldn't do this, I would have give birth already.  The battle is mental.

So, I called my friend to ask how she, mentally, made it all the way to her 38 week induction date.

She recommended that I spend these last days or weeks really enjoying the time I have before two babies are in the picture.  She said I should do things I really enjoy and just cherish the time before my time is not my own.

I thought this was good advice and so I began to think about things that would be on my "Pre-Twins Bucket List."  Then, a few minutes later, I was doubled over in laughter because most of the things on my "Pre-Twins Bucket List" I cannot do because I am pregnant with twins.

My Pre-Twins Bucket List:
  • Go for runs
  • Make the most of the my time with Tracey Ann as the only child by building forts, playing out in the snow, getting down on her level to play, and doing special activities
  • Frantically settle into our home and move and unpack any and all of the boxes left to be unpacked
  • Go up to the new Glenwood Springs hot springs pools that opened over the summer and I haven't seen yet
  • Sleep soundly and through the night and sleep in every morning
  • Cook lots of meals for our freezer
  • Stay up late with Hubby watching fun movies and staring at our beautiful Christmas tree
The truth is, that would have to be my bucket list if I were not pregnant, and twins were just going to show up on our doorstep in the next few weeks.

Most of those things I cannot physically do these days, despite my desire.  So, my bucket list has become a little more modest...

My Realistic Pre-Twins Bucket List:
  • Treasure time with Tracey Ann as the only child -- whatever we are doing (lots of play-dough, books, playing doctor, and cuddling with cartoons)
  • Making sure my parents feel comfortable in their routine with Tracey Ann so that when the twins do arrive, Tracey Ann will have some consistency
  • Enjoying bedtime with Hubby without nursing two babies -- our end of the day cuddling and pillow talk
  • Trying to do a few house projects each day with the help of my mom -- unpacking a few boxes here and there, hanging a few pictures here and there and trying to have things ready for the twins
  • Enjoying the ability to say when I'm tired and then get off my feet or take a nap
  • Treasuring this Christmas break where all of Hubby, Tracey Ann, my Mom, my Daddy  and I are home together without the responsibility of two newborns... we are nesting, watching football, doting on Tracey Ann, and enjoying this time together as a family.  This time really is a gift.

Bucket or To Do...

I have a list for the rest of the year... I'm not sure if its a Bucket List or To Do List... but either way, it needs to get done.

To make a list for the rest of the year is a little overwhelming, and feels more like a daunting list rather than a fun list... so I'm going to stick to November.

November Bucket/To-Do List:
  • Make room for baby clothes in our closet
  • Continue process of storing clothes/items that are not readily needed in order to make room for baby items
  • Organize our basement and make it more of a guest room for company that comes to see our baby
  • Be disciplined enough to do focused-exercises 3-or-more times/week
  • Finish Christmas shopping for the Miller Family gift exchange (occurring over Thanksgiving -- we're calling it Christgiving... which is a pretty cool name)
  • Study for O&M certification exam
  • Take and PASS O&M certification exam
  • Complete Work To-Do List (a WHOLE other can of worms)
  • Begin decorating house for Christmas -- I'm hosting a gathering on December 3, so the Christmas decorations have to be well under way before we head to St. Louis for Thanksgiving
  • Have a few friends over for dinner... we owe a couple of families
  • Spend quality time loving on my adorable animals before they get their new human sibling
  • Make progress on Bradley Method books, and The Happiest Baby on the Block book
  • Keep loving my hubby like crazy
Wish me luck!
