Little Gobblers

On Thanksgiving we started our day with a turkey trot race.

Or rather, we started the day by making our children run a turkey trot race.  Our town had the second annual Little Gobbler heat to the adult turkey trot and we signed up our oldest four kiddos.  Memaw and Pepaw were there too, but managed to escape the pictures.

Tracey and Howard did well and had fun.  They ran together near the front until Howard broke away down the stretch to finish first of his siblings.

Caroline and Lee Lee ran with Mama and did run the entire race.  They finished dead last of all the children, but were happy that the finish line had not run out of doughnuts for the participants.  Lee Lee had fun and kept saying, "I running a race!"  Caroline, on the other hand, did not have the ball everyone else did.  She kind of whimpered the entire race and wanted to hold my hand for most of it.

She did spend the rest of her day, however, talking about the race and showing off her medal.

Oh, our little Gobblers.

Thanksgiving Happenings

We had a great Thanksgiving... here are some pictures from our fun day.

 Good Morning!

Ready for the Little Gobbler Turkey Trot

On Your Mark!  Get Set!  Go!

Our oldest was the first across the finish line... and was pretty emotional to end the race.

Shortly behind his big sister, was Howard, happily running to the end and immediately asking, "Do I get my doughnut now?"

Caroline insisted that Grammie run... well, stroll with her.  When I cheered for her and told her how close the finish line was, she happily trotted to the end with a smile.

Medals for everyone.

We had another family join us for dinner, so we had 12 people total, and this was the Kids Table.

Hubby's dad arrived when we were serving dessert because he and Hubby are headed out hunting soon.  He got to join us for the last part of dinner and spend time with the kids before bedtime.  He's also going to spend all day tomorrow with us before he and Hubby go hunting.

Strut for Mutts

Last Saturday was a really fun day with the kids.  Hubby ran a track meet so he was gone all day (from before dawn until well after dusk) and so the kiddos and I had an adventure.  It was spur of the moment because all kids were up and in my room by 6:15am... so we had to get out of the house.

First I made blueberry apple pancakes (Tracey's idea) and the kids ate them on the floor (Caroline's idea).

Then, I took them to the Rifle Animal Shelter road race -- which was actually a trail race (I did not know that).  Since we had had rain earlier that week, it was actually a mud race (I did not know that either).

It was fun though... I pulled the wagon as far as I could... about half way (and up a big hill I might add) until the wagon wheels were so caked with mud that they they wouldn't roll anymore.

I was so glad I put the kids in their galoshes and they had fun getting out at one part of the race and splashing through the puddles.

We finished our shorter-than-5K race, and headed home to change clothes, eat lunch, and enjoy a nap.

What a fun day with my little ones.  It is so nice to be able to do things like this now that the twins are old enough.  They may not always obey... but they at least know the expectations when we're out together, and they understand me when I direct them.  We never would have done something like this a year or two ago.
