Five Minutes: Dance

This week Chris and I are traveling, but I still wanted to participate in this weeks Gypsy Mama's Five Minute prompt and Dance.

GO

When I think about Dance, country music lyrics immediately come to mind:

"I'd could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance."

"May I have this dance for the rest of my life?"

"We danced out there on that empty ballroom floor, the music and the lights turned way down low.  The music played, we held each other close."

When I think of meaningful dances in my life, I think of the dance that my husband and I danced at our wedding reception.  We danced to Moon River.  Do you know that song?

"Two drifters off to see the world; there's such a lot of world to see.  We're after the same rainbow's end waitin' round the bed my Huckleberry Friend, Moon River and me."

I just love those lyrics... two drifters off to see the world.  And that is exactly what Chris and I love to do, and it is what we are doing right now.  We are currently on a trip to see baseball parks, national museums and monuments, historical landmarks, old friends and new places.  If we can get there, we want to see it.  I love the adventures we find dancing through life.

Oh, Dancing Through Life is a great song also a great song from the musical WICKED.  Do you know that song?  Great song.

Another thing about dancing I love to think about is my parents dancing together.  They danced so much the night of our wedding and they looked so beautiful dancing together.  So many guests commented that night and still comment how wonderful and elegant they looked dancing.

This is my favorite picture of my parents dancing.
This picture of my mom and dad dancing really is worth 1000 words.

Five Minutes: Path

Happy Friday!

Today, I'm going to join the Gypsy Mama in her Five Minute Fridays theme.  Today's five minutes are on Path.

GO

When I think of a path, I don't think of a path, I think of a journey.  I don't think I could write five minutes about a path.  A journey, on the other hand, I could probably write 5 months or years, as I am currently on a number of journeys.

My life is a journey, and within the journey of my life are many smaller journeys.

I am on the journey of marriage.
Within that, I am on the journey to become a better wife, a more loving and compassionate person, and more patient with our animals.

I am on the journey of responsible eating and physical fitness.
Within that, I am on the journey of physical and emotional strength.

I am on the journey of being a daughter of God.
Within that, I am on the journey of prayer, faith, time with the Lord, and testimony.

I am on the journey of being a worker.
Within that, I am on the journey of study, diligence, self-discipline, and excellence.

A kid I knew in high school recorded a CD his Sr. year called "This Journey."  I bought a cd because I wanted to support a classmate, but it has since become one of my favorite cds.  I will look on youtube when I'm done writing to see if "This Journey" the song is available to post... it is a beautiful song.  Nope, couldn't find it.

Five Minutes: Perspective

The Gypsy Mama hosts Five Minutes Fridays... and sometimes I chime in a little after Friday.

This week's Five Minutes of writing are supposed to be devoted to Perspective.

GO

Perspective is an artistic term.  A photograph, a painting changes drastically depending on your perspective.

The same can be said for a story -- a story changes -- well, the point of view on the facts of the story changes based on your perspective.

Attitudes can change your perspective.  Empathy, compassion, sympathy, love all can change based on your perspective.

I remember once in college a friend from high school called me and said, in a very distraught, emotional tone, "I just got really afraid that my grandmother is going to die."

My wonderful, compassionate response was, "Well... your grandmother is going to die."

Yeah, compassion has never really been my strongest thing.

The thing is, I have watched family member after family member die.  My perspective is, YES, many people -- most people in your life are going to die.  CHERISH your time with them.

My perspective is that the more aware you are of how precious life is and how quickly your life can change through death, the more you will appreciate the times you have with loved ones in the present.

My hubby calls me a pessimist... which I kind of resent because I don't think I am a pessimist.  I think I am a realist.

My hubby is an optimist... however, he seems to be very pessimistic in his view that I am a pessimist.  A true optimist would see me as a realist.  :-D

I believe one's perspective changes as one ages.

How has your perspective changed over the years?

Five Minutes on Community

I've recently come across a blog called The Gypsy Mama and she hosts a group each week that is five minutes of writing on a given topic.

The idea is to write for five straight minutes, no editing, no revising...

This week's topic is Community... GO:

Community comes in many shapes and sizes.

My parents' community is made mostly of friends that they have made in their home town over many years and decades.  They know these friends through work, church, business, organizations, functions, committees... you name it.  Over the years, these good friends have become their community.

Chris' parents is made of more of their family.  Chris' entire extended family -- on both sides live in the St. Louis area, so most of his parents' community consist of family that they have both known their entire lives.

How will Chris and my community look?

Chris has come to love the school where he teaches and we have worked toward getting to know other teachers and couples in our area.  I, on the other hand, work at a number of schools throughout 5 school districts -- I don't feel the same sense of community that he does with co-workers.

STOP!

Wow, five minutes goes by really fast!
