Christmas Party Friday: Christmas Sentences

Today is the last day of Christy's Christmas Party Fridays and I'm excited to complete the sentence prompts she's given us.

Photobucket

My favorite part of December is....
December 1-25!
I LOVE the anticipation of Christmas and the hustle and bustle of preparing for the celebration of Jesus' birth.  The season is so busy and joyful and like no other time of year.

The Christmas song I can listen to over and over is....
"Sing Noel" by NEW SONG on the CD The Christmas Shoes

"Sing Noel to all in heaven, Sing Noel to all the earth, Sing Noel, to Christ our Savior, Sing Noel!"

My favorite Christmas gift when I was a child was....
The American Girl Doll, Samantha Parkington
Samantha
If traveling anywhere in the world were an option I would spend Christmas....
at my parent's home in Muskegon, Michigan, with my parents -- also, with Chris' family in New Melle, Missouri.  No where in the world compares to being home for Christmas with family.

Christmas movies are....
such a joyful addition to the Christmas season!

My must have Christmas treats include...
Buckeye balls!

Decorating for the season looks like....
A real Christmas tree full of ornaments with memories attached.

When it comes to Christmas gifts I prefer to...
Plan, conspire, shop, find a sale, hide, wrap and surprise my friends and family!  And gifts in our house NEVER appear under the tree before Christmas morning.

The Christmas season makes me feel....
Amazingly blessed for where I am now, and grateful for the past Christmases that have brought me here.  Always breathless and tearful in awe of the Christmas story and God's love for His children.

To me Christmas means....
Jesus' birth on earth in complete conjunction with all prophecies about the coming Messiah.
... To me, Christmas is the celebration of One Solitary Life:

"He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman.
He grew up in another obscure village, where
He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty.
Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.

He never had a family or owned a home.
He never set foot inside a big city.
He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born.
He never wrote a book, or held an office.
He did none of the things that usually accompany greatness.

When He was still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him.
His friends deserted Him
He was turned over to His enemies, and went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
While He was dying,
His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had -- His coat.
When He was dead,
He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave.

Two thousand years have come and gone, and today
He is the central figure for much of the human race.

All the Armies that ever marched and
all the Navies that ever sailed and
all the Parliaments that ever sat and
all the Kings that ever reigned,
Put Together,
Have not affected the life of man upon this Earth as powerfully as this

'One Solitary Life.'"

American Institutions

I love American institutions that have endured through the years...

the flag, family dinner table, Norman Rockwell, historic downtowns, statues, Bob Hope comedy, I Love Lucy, Santa Claus, childlike faith, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Oregon trail and pioneers, Thanksgiving... and Macy's:

Newest Christmas Ornament

We have a very new Christmas ornament on our tree...

The back of a car with a bride and groom.  The back of the car has a sign that says "Just Married" and our names and the year.
We LOVE it!

Just Married
Brooke & Chris

The back of the ornament,
Just Married

We LOVE this new, first married Christmas ornament!

Thanks, Momma!

A Blog Gift Exchange

Merry Christmas!

Laura from Between The Lines hosted a Blog Gift exchange.  In November, we told her if we wanted to participate, and she paired up different bloggers to exchange gifts.

We received our fellow blog exchange partners just before Thanksgiving and were given two weeks to get to know our blog partners and then send out a fun Christmas present.  All the gift exchangers are linking up at Between The Lines today.

Morhia at My Soldier and Me Plus Three was my blog partner and last Friday, I received my first Christmas present:

First gift under our tree
Inside was this beautiful purple scarf
It turns out that scarfs are hard to photograph

Thank you, Mohria and Merry Christmas!

Unique and Singing Christmas Trees

Last Christmas, I posted about my high school choir, which performs an AMAZING Christmas concert every year.

This year, the Mona Shores High School SINGING CHRISTMAS TREE (the LARGEST Singing Christmas Tree IN THE WORLD) made National News along with a few other unique Christmas trees.

Any unique Christmas trees in your neck of the woods?

Congrats, Hubs!

Our house has been grad school central for basically the past four weeks except when our families were visiting.

My wonderful hubby is working on his masters degree in special education through University of Northern Colorado's online program.  He works his full-time teaching job, he's a newlywed husband, AND he's taking a FULL course load of online classes.

He's a teacher; He's a student; He's a husband; He's SUPERMAN!
Even since Thanksgiving, the story at our house has been GRAD SCHOOL FINALS and ONLY GRAD SCHOOL FINALS.

Well, his LAST assignment was turned in at midnight last night.  HURRAY!

It has been with great tenacity, and determination and very little sleep that he has accomplished the end of this semester.

Can you tell by his face that he teaches middle schoolers?
Can you tell by our house that its finals week?

I tell you, I think it might be easier to do grad school myself, than support my hubby in doing grad school.  I have tried to anticipate his food needs, made sure he has the caffeine he needs, tried to make him feel like he wasn't alone in his hours of studying and prayed like crazy.  I don't remember my own graduate degrees being this challenging...  :-D

Last night was pretty adorable.  Chris was completely his LAST assignment, under the clock to get it turned it.  I was rubbing his back (I fall asleep when my back is rubbed, but he stays awake when his is rubbed), Lexie was on the table where he was working watching him, and Lloyd was asleep next to his chair -- literally our entire family was hanging in with Chris to finish this last assignment.

"I'll help, Dad!"
"I'll help too, Dad.  I'll sleep for you, while you're working late!"
This weekend will be a combination of celebration and recovery!

"I don't know how much more of this hard work I can take!"
I am so proud of you, Hubby!  Time to enjoy a well deserved break!
